Jury rejects tenant’s $2 million claim for malicious prosecution and theft, instead awarding the firm’s client damages and attorneys’ fees.

Warehouse owner JDC/CAC leased office and warehouse space to Juan Rodriguez-Guerrero and a business partner in suburban Houston. Within a few months, the tenants were behind on the rent, prompting JDC/CAC to lock them out of the building. Rodriguez-Guerrero tried to break in and was arrested. He sued, claiming malicious prosecution and the theft of his truck by JDC/CAC, which the company denied. After a two-day trial, jurors agreed with firm partner Wesley Jackson that the company was not at fault and awarded the firm more than $17,000 in damages and attorneys’ fees.
